- OH YES WE ARE!!

As part our continuing commitment to support and encourage reading, we are very pleased to welcome the arrival of our new bookcase. This has been placed in the Reception area at Balsall Heath Children’s Centre. Our ‘BookShare’ corner is a safe and comfortable space for families to enjoy a book.
Sharing a book with your child helps them to learn the importance of language. At just a few months of age, babies can look at pictures, listen to your voice, and point to objects on book pages. You can help your child by pointing to the pictures, and saying aloud the names of the various objects. Children learn to love the sound of language, before they even notice printed words on a page.
Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and helps their understanding of the world. It helps them to develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. All this makes it easier for a child to learn to read.
Over the last few weeks we have received generous book donations from Peters Bookshop, WH Smith and the National Literacy Trust. All these organisations support our commitment to help families to enjoy reading.
We hope you will enjoy our BookShare.
